CEC025 - Introduction to AI for UX Designers
Course Description
Created for user experience (UX) designers in a non-developer capacity, this is an introductory class designed to introduce students to the types of AI, basic concepts, AI tools, and issues with AI. Students will learn how to harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance their creative and business work processes, with a focus on generative AI. Discover how AI can create content, streamline workflows, and support decision-making. Explore AI-driven tools and platforms that can empower you to work more efficiently and effectively. By the end of the class, students will have been introduced to AI-driven solutions which can be used in their design and user research work. The course features lectures, discussions, case studies, and hands-on exercises that will guide students in applying the concepts and techniques covered. Students will create a final project for the purposes of adding it to their portfolios. This course focuses on using AI tools; the second part, "Designing for AI" (coming soon), will focus on designing for AI-enabled products.

This course covers the following topics:
- Introduction to artificial intelligence (AI)
- Generative AI versus discriminative AI
- Risks of using generative AI: hallucinations, privacy, security, copyright considerations, data considerations
- Ethical considerations and AI
- Review and hands-on application of various types of generative AI tools, including text generation, image generation, video generation, avatar generation, audio generation and code generation
- Discussion workflows (in the UX field and otherwise) and how AI could impact these workflows
