Course Description

This course guides HR professionals through the process of not just making a hire, but making the best one for every role. The course dissects why hiring can go so wrong and what exactly defines a "right" hire. While making their way through a description of the interview process, learners will delve into ethics and legality surrounding hiring, the ethical use of AI in hiring processes, and how to identify and mitigate bias and discrimination. Following a discussion on evaluating candidates post-interview, the course discusses secondary interviews, job trials, and sealing the deal with the perfect candidate. By completing two case studies designed to apply their new knowledge, HR professionals will move forward with the knowledge and ability they need to make every hire the right one.

Learner Outcomes

After completing this course, you'll be able to:

  • Explain the importance of making the right hiring decisions
  • Differentiate between various types of hires (e.g., full-time, part-time, contract, volunteer) and explain how the hiring process differs for each
  • Understand how to facilitate effective and unbiased interviews and assessments to evaluate candidates' skills, experience, and cultural fit
  • Identify strategies to mitigate biases and discrimination in selection practices
  • Develop criteria for shortlisting and hiring top candidates using an interview scorecard
  • Understand and adhere to legal and ethical standards in the hiring process, including equal employment opportunity laws and the ethical use of AI
  • Develop a compensation strategy, prepare job offers, negotiate contracts, and take appropriate steps to close the deal with chosen candidates
