Course Description
Use your vacation to get a leg up on your test preparation strategy! Gain skills and strategies necessary to score well on the ACT exam, and take the next step to achieve your academic goals. SMU's ACT preparation classes present information in manageable units, focusing on each component of the exam. Our experienced instructors will help you to develop the tools to take the ACT with confidence, and they will walk you through the questions you may encounter on the exam. On the last day, students will create a study plan leading up to exam day.
With SMU College Prep, you will master math and verbal skills needed for success on the ACT and reach your exam date ready to perform at your peak.
Our ACT Strategy Institute gives high school students strategies to succeed on standardized tests in a condensed, four-day format beginning with a practice ACT exam and individual data analysis.

Quantitative Topics include:
- Drawing, equations, statistics
- Functions, polynomials, lines and slopes
- Absolute value, inequalities, matrices, angles, triangles
English Topics include:
- Subject verb agreement, pronouns, adjectives and adverbs
- Modifiers, fragments, comma splices
- Punctuation
- Production of writing
Reading and Science Topics include:
- Standard English conventions
- Expression of ideas
- Command of evidence
- Words in context
- Reading charts and graphs
General Topics include:
- Introduction to the ACT
- Test-taking strategies
- Question formats
- Time management
- Process of elimination
- Practice test with data-analysis
- Study plan leading up to exam date
