BGR106 - Graphic Design Capstone

Course Description

In this course, you'll experience the process used by professional freelancers and design firms to create professional-quality design. You'll deepen your understanding of what makes good design while refining and expanding select projects from previous courses. The focus is on strengthening concepts, improving execution, and developing portfolio-ready design work.

This course is the Capstone requirement for SMU’s Graphic Design Certificate Program.

Course Outline

This course consists of four modules:

Module 1: Designer Productivity and Adobe^® Portfolio

Module 2: Brand Identity and Advertising Campaigns

Module 3: Product Packaging Design and Mock-ups

Module 4: Portfolio Presentations

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, a successful student will be able to do the following:

• Master design skills tailored to the professional design industry
• Prepare and create an online portfolio comprised of completed graphic design projects
• Evaluate and demonstrate portfolio presentation methods
• Arrange and refine projects for inclusion in a graphic design portfolio
• Identify industry requirements for employment
• Develop skills, attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the industry and relevant to the professional development of the student

Students must complete the first five courses in the Graphic Design Certificate Program before enrolling in this course. Please review the prerequisites and enrollment guidelines to ensure you meet enrollment requirements.

Required for this class is Adobe® Acrobat®, Photoshop®, Illustrator®, and InDesign® or a Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps plan with Desktop Apps downloaded on your home computer or laptop.

You will need a Creative Cloud account username and password.
