ARTH512 - Renoir and the Impressionist Portrait

Course Description

Learn about Renoir's works, painting style, and techniques along with the painters who formed the core group of radical artists known as the Impressionists. The sketch-like paintings and independent exhibitions marked them as among the first artists of the modern era. This four-part course will consider Renoir’s portraits and nudes, which remain his most enduring works.

Notes

This course will prepare you for a well-informed experience in the Kimbell Art Museum's special exhibition Renoir: The Body, The Senses (October 27, 2019 - January 26, 2020).  PLEASE NOTE: This course does not include a group visit to the Kimbell Art Museum.
