Course Description
Experience Dallas’ history through architecture first-hand through guided walks through neighborhoods in the Park Cities and Old East Dallas. Learn about significant historic homes, important architects, and their notable occupants. With an expert as your guide, explore the development of Dallas neighborhoods from their initial planning through development over the past century.

Each tour focuses on a specific topic. Register for each section individually, based on your interest.
Fall 2020 tours include:
- Historic Highland Park
Learn about the history and early development of the Town of Highland Park, one of the most popular, exclusive, and beautiful neighborhoods in the United States. Explore some of the town’s verdant parks and stroll past homes in an array of architectural styles designed by architects like Hal Thomson, O’Neil Ford, and others.
Please Note: This tour covers approximately 1.5 miles and includes numerous steps.
- The Magical & Whimsical Houses of Charles Dilbeck
Dallas architect Charles Dilbeck, designed over 500 houses in Dallas and the Park Cities. Explore University Park, with many outstanding examples of Dilbeck’s work, and witness first-hand how he shaped the architectural landscape of this charming neighborhood. Learn how to identify the characteristics that define Dilbeck’s whimsical, trademark style.
- Swiss Avenue Historic District
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Dallas’ Swiss Avenue includes one of the finest collections of early twentieth century residential architecture in the country. Learn about architects like Bertram Hill, Lang & Witchel, and Hal Thomson who designed in diverse architectural styles that lend this neighborhood its beauty and distinction.
