Course Description

Explore the Palace of Versailles, the opulent estate of French royalty.  Originally built a hunting lodge for Louis XIII, the estate grew to encompass more than 2000 acres of palaces, gardens, and fountains by the reign of Marie Antoinette in the late eighteenth century. Discover the life of Marie Antoinette as revealed through the personal and public spaces at the Palace of Versailles, such as the Petit Trianon, the Petit Hameau, and the Queen’s Bedroom, and learn about seventeenth- and eighteenth-century art, design, and architecture in this class.
