Course Description

The Department of Defense (DoD) of the United States is taking action to secure critical data that companies receive or create in the performance of DoD contracts. Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) is highly sought by our adversaries to steal sensitive US defense-related technical information. This allows them to match and potentially defeat our warfighting capabilities at pennies on the dollar. Hundreds of billions of dollars of CUI are exfiltrated each year.

The defense industrial base comprises hundreds of thousands of companies that now must meet current cybersecurity and compliance requirements and become compliant with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) to continue the ability to work on DoD contracts. In 2020, DoD established the CMMC Accreditation Body to develop and manage the training and certification ecosystem. CMMC certification requires the industry to satisfy all CUI security requirements and controls including all CMMC practices and assessment objectives. An independent CMMC Third-Party Assessor Organization (C3PAO) must assess and certify compliance. Assessment teams consist of Certified CMMC Assessors (CCA) and Certified CMMC Professionals (CCP). The CMMC program is nearing a voluntary certification period and may create a significant competitive advantage for early adopters.

The defense industry base is made up of hundreds of thousands of companies that now must become compliant to the Cyber Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) to continue the ability to work on DoD projects. In 2020, DoD established the CMMC Accreditation Body and Industry Working Group to develop the program. The program is nearing completion, so early adapters should get trained now to take advantage of a huge market opportunity.
CMMC certification requires they meet all the CMMC practices and assessment objectives. Then, they must be assessed by an independent third-party assessor organization. Assessment teams have at least one Certified 3rd Party Assessor (C3PAO) and may have several Certified Cyber Professionals (CCP).
