Isaac Babel, Katherine Anne Porter, William Trevor and Tom McGuane

Discover, or re-discover, outstanding examples of the short story genre by four exceptional authors of the twentieth century. Russian Isaac Babel wrote Red Calvary, a collection of eloquent and gripping stories based on his experiences fighting in the Polish-Soviet War of 1920. Texan Katherine Anne Porter’s short stories about the American south, Mexico, and Europe received critical acclaim. Irishman William Trevor, renowned for his short stories and considered one of the greatest contemporary writers in the English language, was influenced by James Joyce. Tom McGuane is a Montana rancher and expert angler who writes stories about eccentric families in today’s American west.
