Course Description

Gain insights to read, discuss and write poetry! Learn about elements such as meter, rhyme, form, repetition, syntax, lineation, metaphor, and image. Read examples from throughout the history of poetic tradition and contemporary poetry. Shape your individualized style and share your poetry in a supportive environment of fellow readers and writers.

Course Outline

Class 1: Introduction to reading and discussing poetry
Class 2: Exploration of poetic forms
Class 3: Who is the “Poet” - point of view, perspective and narrative
Class 4: Workshopping original poems
Class 5: Workshopping original poems

Prerequisites


This class is open to students at all levels and no prior writing experience is needed.
